ADHD Assessment & Management

Expert ADHD assessment for adults and children, with personalised treatment plans overseen by specialist consultant psychiatrists, including ongoing support and care.

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is believed that around 5% of the UK population has ADHD, many without realising it. ADHD affects a person's ability to focus, manage impulses, and maintain attention. It often presents in childhood, but many adults remain undiagnosed for years.

Common symptoms of ADHD include:

  • Difficulty focusing or paying attention
  • Impulsivity and acting without thinking
  • Restlessness or excessive activity
  • Trouble organising tasks or completing them on time

ADHD frequently runs in families and is often linked with other conditions such as autism or Asperger’s Syndrome. While ADHD can be diagnosed at any age, early recognition and management can make a big difference in quality of life.

Our ADHD Assessment Process

For Children

The ADHD assessment for Children at Well Life Clinic involves a detailed, multi-step approach:

  1. Pre-Appointment Questionnaire: Your child (or you if appropriate) will begin by completing a questionnaire that helps us understand their symptoms, history, and concerns.
  1. In-Person Assessment: This will be completed in two parts.
Part A: Your child will take a 20 minute computer based assessment (QB Test) to measure attention, impulse control and activity levels.
Part B: You and your child will undertake a 40-60 minute in person interview with one of our specially trained GPs to provide a clear picture of the symptoms.
  1. The GP will send an electronic questionnaire that takes 20 mins to complete to your child and other relevant people which may include other parents of the child, carers, child and a school representative.
  1. Expert Review: Your assessment results will be reviewed by our Consultant Psychiatrist in consultation with your assessing GP, to determine whether ADHD or another condition is the most appropriate diagnosis. We can also include the school representative in this discussion if appropriate and with consent.
  1. Management Planning: Within a few days, there will be a 40-minute follow-up appointment to discuss the diagnosis and management plan. We will work with you to develop a plan that meets your specific needs and goals. It is likely that your child will need several follow up appointments to monitor their response to the management plan and adjust medication as required.

We understand that the assessment process can be a challenging experience for some children, and our clinic team will take extra care to ensure that your child feels comfortable throughout the process.  If there are things we can do that will help your child feel more at ease, please tell us, and we will do everything to accommodate your request providing it is safe and doesn’t compromise the quality of the assessment.

For Adults

Adult ADHD Assessments will follow the same process as for Children except for the school and lifestyle interviews.

Why Accurate ADHD Diagnosis Matters

An ADHD diagnosis can be life-changing. Understanding why you or your child experiences difficulty with focus, impulsivity, or organisation can help you manage these challenges and improve daily functioning.  A misdiagnosis of ADHD can mean that other health concerns remain undetected and untreated / managed leaving you or you child without an improvement in symptoms.  Additionally, some ADHD medications can exacerbate other types of health conditions and should only be prescribed where a robust diagnosis has been made by qualified professionals.   At Well Life Clinic, we ensure that your diagnosis is accurate, and we support you every step of the way on your journey toward better focus, organisation, and well-being.
